Additional Minor Wig Design

TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL

JESSIE MAE

A meticulous and high-maintenance woman, Jessie Mae's hair is a structured wave with two rolls holding hair out of the face.

THELMA

This young woman's hair emulates the sweet southern sensibilities with large Texan blonde waves.

CHICKEN & BISCUITS

BRIANNA

Due to the measurements of the actress, we were unable to purchase an off-the-shelf unit. This resulted in the need for a custom piece to fit and emulate the look desired by the director. I spliced together two different wet and wavy human hair wigs that were originally purchased in the hopes one would fit. Because they were two different densities and curl patterns, a lot of effort went into a custom cut and style to look like once piece.

LA'TRICE

As a teenage character, her style was intended to look more hip than her adult counterparts. The unit was purchased pre-braided for another production, but needed additional coverage to achieve the look with no bald spots. Sixteen braids were crocheted into the mix. In addition to the braids, the pulled back look was sewn into place and the baby hair edges were set each performance to camouflage the lace.

CHRISTMAS CAROL ('23)

RESETS

The original wig design was done by a different designer, but Charleston Stage's high-intensity rendition knocked styles lose often. Full resets and re-styles were done almost daily to maintain the show. Sausage curls, buns, and bonnets - oh my!

UNDERSTUDIES

Thanks to a holiday helping of COVID-19 during tech and opening weekend, multiple understudies were added to the show. Two wigs - one for Ms. Tabor and one for an ensemble swing - were added in a day to cover the new actresses.

CLUE: ON STAGE!

YVETTE

After the actress' original wig was unable to be worn, an emergency wig was needed stat. The costume designer wanted to emulate the iconic film with the style - a high bun, loose curls, and flirty doily. Tracks were moved to the nape of this lace-front to hide the edges and imitate a 360 degree lace look. This human hair unit became a fan favorite.

MISS SCARLET

The same circumstances struck Miss Scarlet. A new synthetic lace-front was sourced and styled to make her sultry waves just before tech week.

THE PROM

DEEDEE

Since this show is modern, only one wig was necessary to sell the look. DeeDee, the Broadway star, definitely needed to be a hair above the rest! a simple curl with hair pinned out of the face was perfect to keep her looking performance ready.
